Director, Music Director & Conductor
Stephen Dagrosa is a director, music director & conductor who believes great productions start with clarity: of story, of music, & of purpose. For over 10 years he has led productions across musical theatre, opera & educational theatre, from Grease to Shrek to original works created on commission.
Directing & Creating
Stephen is the Cofounder & Artistic Director of Cross Keys Theatre Collective, a nonprofit educational theatre company that gives high school students professional-level training in an environment run like a working company. He directed the company’s productions of Sister Act (2025) and Shrek (2026), and conceived, created & directed its inaugural production, Opening Doors: Unlocking Your True Potential (2024).
He was commissioned by East Passyunk Opera Project (ePOP) to write & direct The Wondrous World of Opera, a three-part series introducing children to opera through interactive performance.
My ApproachRehearsal is a collaboration. Stephen sees the director and the actor as partners in understanding every side of the story. Together they discover what each character wants and find the most honest way to share it with the audience, within the framework of the production.
The audience is part of the story. Stephen is drawn to immersive, interactive theatre that pulls audiences into the world of the show. His series The Wondrous World of Opera invites children to take part in the performance, because he believes that when young audiences participate, they understand and remember what they’re learning.
Music Direction & Conducting
Since 2016, Stephen has served as music director, conductor & coach for the Performing Arts, Vocal Music & Instrumental Music Academies at Camden County Technical Schools, leading 15 productions, including Chicago, Into the Woods, Hairspray, Mamma Mia!, Pirates of Penzance and Pippin. He also serves as music director for Haddonfield UMC Drama.
